The idea of the chairman of the Municipal Council Nejat Kehayov to reduce councillors' salaries did not come to a discussion of the session at all. At the suggestion of Asim Adem by 25 votes in favour, the item was dropped from the agenda of the session on May 19.
Previously, it was clearly seen in the committees that the majority of councillors did not share Mr. Kehayov's position on reducing their salaries from BGN 240 to 120 for a regular meeting. Ekaterina Kaferinova said that it was a precedent for the chairman to submit such a proposal provided that the councillors voted him a salary equal to the mayor's. She recalled that for two years as chairman of the Municipal Council she had donated part of her salary and said that it was insulting for the important decisions taken by them to receive one minimum wage - as much as a sweeper under a temporary employment program. Asim Adem accused Mr. Kehayov of declaring war on the Municipal Council and setting the population up. According to Venko Bozev, public opinion is not in favor of the councillors, but according to Dimitar Kasapsky, artificial sentiment is created and replayed.
Nejat Kehayov announced that in the secret vote on the salaries of the last session, he himself did not understand what exactly he was voting for. Nadezhda Klyuchkova replied that he had allowed this vote, and that in Pazardzhik the chairman takes as much as the councillors. Everyone could vote against, recalled Boryana Belukhova who did exactly that at the last session.
According to Mayor F. Beev for salaries councillors voted something impracticable. In response, however, voices were heard as the municipal treasury was so empty to review the salaries of mayors and mayoral deputies. Chief accountant Hristo Savov also failed to convince the advisers who countered him that when the budget was adopted, he gave assurances of more revenue.
