The municipal councilors of Velingrad did not accept the proposal of three companies from Rakitovo to determine an inter-municipal taxi stand.
The three taxi companies ET "Vihren 55", ET "Dessi - R" and ET "Enyo Banguiev" have entered into a lease agreement with the owner of a property on ul. ‘N. Vaptsarov" to bus station "Tonev". In connection with the normal functioning of their activities, they made a proposal to the Municipal Council to designate the place as an inter-municipal taxi stand. In the heated discussion of the session, some of the councillors took the view that the interests of the taxi drivers from Velingrad should be protected in the first place. The chairman of the Committee on Public Order, Venko Bozev, asked whether the municipality of Rakitovo has defined such a stand on its territory at the request of the taxi companies in Velingrad. Alexander Daskalov suggested that a consultation among local firms should be made first as to whether the competition would not interfere with them. The interests of our drivers should come first, pointed out Ivan Lebanov. Dimitar Kasapski described such statements as populism. According to him, the place of the current inter-municipal stand of Kalna Banya is inappropriate, and its natural place is in the area of bus stations.
The stormy debate ended with 16 abstentions, rejecting the Rakitovo firms' proposal.
