Blue MP gave an account

10.07.2002 21:30 •
The Blue MP Panayot Lyakov presented on July 1 in Velingrad a report on his one-year work in the National Assembly: 3 submitted bills, 12 proposals on other bills, 21 current issues to ministers, three thematic meetings with voters and regular receptions and press conferences in each city of the district. I am personally satisfied with my work, the MP emphasized and outlined as an unfinished task to organize his "electronic office" on the Internet.

In parallel with the personal account, Mr. Lyakov gave an assessment of the year-long work of the parliament and the government. It did not differ from what he has repeatedly said so far: the ruling majority in parliament is of "dead souls" who are indifferent to politics and cannot be a corrective of the executive. Regarding the government, it outlined 3 main questions: whether the government is right-wing, honorable and effective. The answer to all three questions was negative. Management is not right-wing because there is a catastrophic decrease in foreign investment, stagnation in the economy, virtually stopped privatization and extremely difficult conditions for businesses. It is not honorable because the government did not fulfill key promises and changed the vote of the voters by bringing the BSP into power and its election promises such as this to hide the files, believes P. Lyakov. As an example of the lack of effectiveness, he pointed out the failure of the legislative program, and in conclusion pointed out that governance is not an engine of change and therefore the whole society is overwhelmed by apathy. Mr. Lyakov outlined the situation around the suspended newspaper Democracy. The brand is not compromised, there will be a right-wing newspaper, but professionals with right-wing beliefs are being sought to bring it to market. Regarding the suspended 30 private radio stations, the MP, who is a member of the Media Committee, expressed his personal opinion that they were suspended for various reasons and a separate decision would be needed for each specific case. Asked about the need for more transparency in UDF policy at the local level, Mr. Lyakov expressed his personal belief that the party needed an opening. With a decision of the district council, we will oblige municipal leaders to give regular press conferences, the MP promised. Elena Baeva
