Mayor Dr. Tsvetan Dafov returned from the meeting between the Association of Rhodope Municipalities and the hosts from Xanthi with excellent impressions of Greek hospitality. The Bulgarian mayors were welcomed by the Vice-President of the Greek Parliament, the President of the Association of Town Halls and Municipalities of Xanthi, the Metropolitan of Xanthi and representatives of the IV Officer Corps.
On the Greek side, firm support for Bulgaria's entry into NATO and the EU was stated. Highlighted is the Catholic desire to open the roads Gotse Delchev - Drama and Smolyan - Xanthi and interest in cross-border projects. The general proposal prepared by the ARO to provide jobs for Bulgarians in Greece was accepted. It is yet to be considered by the government, which will also make the final decision.
There have been many projects for cultural cooperation, which is traditional between Bulgaria and Greece. A decision was made to hold a similar meeting in Greece within 2 months, but this time at the level of businessmen from the municipalities that are members of the APO. If it comes to establishing closer relations, the municipality of Velingrad will partner with Xanthi.
