The initiative of the Municipality of Velingrad to start traditionally to be defined "Sportsman of the Year" by a local sports club began to be applied in practice. According to the head of the Sports and Tourism Department, Todor Bozev, the first offers from the sports clubs have already arrived, which had to nominate their three best athletes for the past year, along with their rankings and achievements in the respective sport. This kind of poll involved the three swimming clubs, ski clubs, orienteering club, wrestling club in Sarnitsa, sports dance club (the biathlon club did not respond to the invitation). It is estimated that for now football clubs will not participate in the poll (perhaps because they do not have impressive performances at national level, but the absence of local bridge-club and karate club in the poll is perplexing). Still, in Velingrad and the municipality in one way or another, with different successes and achievements, but with a lot of effort and problems of all kinds, only 7-8 sports are developing and it would be right for the work in all clubs to be respected, regardless of what they have done during the year. After all, the ranking will show what the place of each of them is.

Once Mr. Bozev has received the proposals made by each club, a list will be drawn up with the names of all mentioned athletes and their successes and achievements. The list will return again to the clubs, it will also be provided to the media, which reflect the sports life in the city, after which every sports specialist, coach and journalist will make their Top 10 ranking, ranking the athletes from first to tenth place according to their preferences. Processing the resulting rankings will show which athlete received the most votes in the top of the rankings. In the same way, the rest of the ranking from 2nd to 10th place will be determined. For all athletes of Velingrad, who are in the "Top 10", awards are provided - certificates and special plaques made by the artist Boris Kostov. The idea is that the awards will be presented in a solemn atmosphere in the form of a cocktail, and Mr. Bozev hinted that there will be surprises for other athletes, but they will become clear during the celebration itself, which will take place at the latest by the end of January. Tempo
