For the first time in the last 11 years, a record low turnout in elections was recorded in the Municipality of Velingrad. Of the 34,882 eligible voters, only 36% went to the polls on 11 November - about 12,600 people (the data is provisional and unofficial, not including the votes from Copper Meadows).

In the run-off presidential couple Petar Stoyanov - Nelly Kutzkova went with a score of 38% from the Municipality of Velingrad. Next is the pair Georgi Parvanov - Angel Marin with 34%.
Third ranks Bogomil Bonev with 20% support in the municipality. It was followed by Reneta Indzhova with 5%, Georges Ganchev with 2% and Petar Beron with 1% of the ballots cast. The vote in the municipality shows an interesting trend. The figures for Velingrad alone show a significant victory for BSP - in the city Georgi Parvanov leads with 3819 votes, and Petar Stoyanov is trailing by nearly 1000 votes, collecting 2794 ballots. The opposite, however, is the trend in the villages where nearly 1,800 people voted for Stoyanov against 400 for Parvanov. The election day went smoothly, without incident. From the headquarters of all contenders for the presidential post worked only those of BSP and UDF. They were also the only ones who performed their own counting of votes on election night, interest also showed from IMRO. The lack of interest from other political forces was also seen by the lack of advocates and observers for individual candidates. Tempo
