I have always been impressed by the iron fence of a plastered and stained in a light residential building on ul. "Aleko Konstantinov" 10 and its yard with sculptural figures. There are several copies of the famous Venus de Milo on the fence. An invitation brought me into this house. The surprise, no - my amazement, was endless. Every object, the walls, the windows, the floor, the stairs, the ceilings were works of art. Even from the outside stairs, the slab in front of the door, in the office and especially in the small tavern named "Bacchus - San Susi", the setting is a real treasure trove of spiritual wealth! Here are preserved dozens of works of folklore, mythology, objects of everyday life, everything created by metalloplasty, woodcarving and ceramics. My word is poor to present all this wealth. It must be seen, personally perceived.
The kind host is perceptively chatty. He talks a little hurriedly, but emphatically emotionally, with excitement. The short-trimmed chin ala Aleko Konstantinov, already polished, and the gray moustache, shape the image of an artist, a man of art.
Without any doubt, the works of art that surround us are the result of strong human talent, of real talent that has only stepped on a two-year training at the Art Academy and the rest is round-the-clock work. His fame, his notoriety is not only in Bulgaria, but also outside of it.
In this house of art, in this treasury of spirituality, there is a handwritten collection of sincere shared impressions in the encounter with this wealth. The home has been visited on various occasions and by many personalities. The collection was led from 1 May 1973, when the tavern was opened. The left-over marks-impressions are over 150. Boris Kostov shared that meetings with his guests have always been for him real spiritual holidays. The conversations he led inspired him and were often an impulse and ideas that he realized in new works of art. What is written in this book is also an estimate of the value of the created (see box). As early as August 2, 1982. the literary critic Marin Kadiev, known to everyone in Velingrad, has written that Boris Kostov's tavern is a star moment, a touch to the true beauty, to the truth of the world... This home is a memory, and the memory is a second life!
In the lengthy conversation with the artist, I sensed in his voice pain and disappointment when he spoke of his unfulfilled ideas, with which he wanted to be useful to the city. In his sincere confession he put the dream of building the Christian cross over Velingrad, second highest in the world (33 meters - Christ's age). The project for him he worked out, but remained with his creative anguish. He also mentioned the sculpture of the Goat, which is a symbol of Kleptuza and the city, but again only a dream... He was satisfied with the monument of Hristo Botev, although he designed to elevate it with a higher pedestal. To create and to the Apostle Vasil Levski. I felt an outpouring of anticipation for unrealized ideas as well. He is convinced that the most objective evaluator of any creative work is the story that always establishes the truth. The created so far: the home - a real showcase of art; the 8 exhibitions shown in Bulgaria; participation in the international exhibition of the 13 arts "Artex" in 1993. in Vienna; the Petrodvorets woodcarving; the Karlov Bridge - Prague monotype and how many more, and more... And everything is unique, original, unique, unique. With good reason, the poet Joseph Petrov exclaims about Boris Kostov "The Charmed One with God is Hortually"!
