Is tourism a sport - there is always controversy over this issue. There is no dispute, however, that tourism is an enviably good alternative to the nervous urban rhythm of work and life. That it is health that everyone can give himself, and with a minimum of funds. That it is a way of preserving the spirit and the body, of making friendships and of energizing encounters with the mountain.

We rediscover the above truths in conversation with Boyka Peshterska from the Yundola Tourist Society, which lists what local tourists have done over the past year. Every Saturday outing - this is an unwritten law for members of the Yundola TD. The route schedule changes every week on the board in front of the Old Council. Saturday outing is unfortunately not only a matter of desire, but also of enough time, Boyka shares, admitting that she herself sometimes does not have enough for the housework and does not have time to go to the mountain. In addition to take-offs, the company operates on a calendar plan. Every year for March 3, he makes a march to Proce, which involves many people and thus marks the national holiday with songs and poems. The patriotic beginning of the tourist organization is also among the indisputable things: on May 11, a march is made in the footsteps of Aleko Konstantinov along the old cobblestone road from Draginovo and Alabac to Milevi Skali hut. A special Alec evening is held every year at the end of November. The latter was attended by over 40 people - from 10-year-old children to people over 70 years of age. The celebration of the company is in the last week of August, when mountaineers go in three beams to Kladova. And if everything said so far sounds more tourist optimistic, then when it comes to finances, we go to the other pole: bloody bad, we are moving along the edge of the razor, says Boyka Peshterska. TD Yundola manages 3 huts of Yundola, Kladova and Kurtovo. There are no subsidies from either the BTS or the municipality. There is a decree of the Council of Ministers for mountain sites above 1500 meters in height to be given alimony from the state budget. On it, the company received... 80 leva (!). And the cabins are old, the conditions in them do not allow high prices for beds, funds for the necessary repairs are not enough, although the staff is reduced to the absolute minimum of 1 person for everything. Paradoxically, the tourist company does not have a single bed in Velingrad after the battle for the built by tourists TD Kislovodsk was finally lost. To the negatives should be added the lost interest in the Rhodope Mountains - tourists from the excursion summers are mass headed to Rila and Pirin, which are clearly advertised better, because otherwise the tourist base there is not superior to the one here. As of 28 December 2001. TD "Yundola" has a new chairman in the person of Dimitar Kholyanov. It is also normal that hopes are renewed, but the company needs someone to lend him a hand. Still tourists are not clear why they are not invited to the municipal association of sports clubs, why their contribution to the development of mass sport in the municipality is not taken into account. As a tradition, as a spirit, as a knowledge of the mountain from TD "Yundola" there is much to give for the tourist look of Velingrad.
