The graduate of the Velingrad SC "Biathlon" Vasil Ovcharov won the championship title of the state championship and the "Troyan" Cup. Thus once again proved to be the great hope of the club with coach Atanas Gulev.
On February 7, in the Beklemeto area near Troyan, the start of the state biathlon championship and the Trojan Cup race were held. 100 competitors from all biathlon clubs in the country participated.
For Velingradians the biggest success was the presentation of Vasil Ovcharov, who won the gold medal from the state championship and the cup in the discipline mass start in the age category boys seniors. In this group, the other participant of the SC "Biathlon" Georgi Malinov took eighth place. Also in eighth place, but in boys junior age, is Nikola Nedyalkov. The start for the state biathlon championship continued in February. All three planned races will be in Troyan. And this raises the legitimate question of why Velingrad should not also ask and get a home start from the state championship. We have wonderful conditions for such a race on both Yundola and Kurtovo. The benefits are not in doubt: advertising for the resort, many guests from all over the country, prestige for SC Biathlon and for the children who have been training for years despite the many difficulties. According to specialists, the amount required to organize such a competition does not exceed 3000 leva. But does any governing municipal institution have the will, desire and ambition for a modern and promising sport such as biathlon to be established in Velingrad?
