The curator at the Historical Museum Georgi Kumanov presented the program "Easter 2005", which the museum will implement together with the municipality of Velingrad and with the support of "PET" Ltd. A guest at the press conference was also Iliana Maslarova, who as director of the museum 12 years ago started the idea of preserving and popularizing the tradition of written Easter eggs from Chepinsko.
Part of the program is already underway: a permanent workshop for Easter eggs is working in the museum hall, in which 35 students from Velingrad and Draginovo study the tradition and create their own original models under the guidance of the art teacher Krustyo Mirchev. The presentation of the written eggs from Chepinsko in museums from Central Europe was also completed. During the week Peter Rusev from the company "PET" returned from there, according to whom the program is maximally implemented: Velingradski written eggs are now part of the collections of museums in Leipzig, Cottbus, Brno, Pech and Vienna. The visit has proven that our Historical Museum is on the right track, promoting the original local waxing technique. On the eve of this year's Easter, the technique will be demonstrated in the historical museums in Batak and Targovishte, where an exhibition will visit and there will be a workshop for written eggs. In the museum in Velingrad, the third exhibition "Velingrad masters of written eggs" will be opened on April 15. The museum will also show the huge for the scale of Bulgaria collection of written eggs, including those brought by European museums. There will also be held the traditional competition for students together with the Municipal Children's Complex. Nedyalka Stefanova assured that the municipality will support the initiatives financially. According to her, the written eggs combine the old religious and domestic tradition with a new art-sounding, and the most valuable is that the children are empathetic and participate with great interest and pleasure.
Efforts will now be focused on creating a website for the written eggs. It turns out that only Bulgaria does not present its traditions in this area in the world wide web. The ambition of G. Kumanov is Velingrad first to realize it, because our city is a natural center of this tradition.
This year the museum will also offer an attractive opportunity for tourists. A nook will be organized in which guests will be able to try to write out an egg themselves with the traditional wax technique. There is an original bee waiting for them, chosen by P. Rusev, as beeswax is the basis of the local tradition.
There is already a great deal of interest in buying written eggs. He will be satisfied with bazaars in the two business centers, which are already gathering eggs for sale.
