Velingrad becomes capital of Balkan festival

04.02.2002 21:39 •
A long-held dream of Velingrad to be the capital of a Balkan festival is about to come true. From 3 to 7 April the First Balkan Classical Guitar Festival is to be held in our city. Organizers are the Municipality of Velingrad and New Bulgarian University - Department of Musical and Performing Arts headed by Dimitar Doychinov. The festival will be held under the patronage of the mayor of the municipality Dr. Tsvetan Dafov. The main sponsor of the event is Cable Bulgaria - Union Television Velingrad. About 50 classical guitar performers from the country and guests from Macedonia, Greece, Cyprus and Serbia are expected to take part in the festival (so far these countries have confirmed the participation). It is expected that the participation of performers from Romania and Turkey will be confirmed. The jury will be international and the representative of Greece Mrs. Eva Pampas has already confirmed her participation. Even more: within the framework of the festival, she will hold a master class in classical guitar and will perform a solo concert.
The first Balkan Classical Guitar Festival will take place in the hall of the Fund "13 Centuries Bulgaria" (formerly the Open Society Club). Veska Bozhkova
