The local parliament gave consent for the municipality of Velingrad to participate in the non-profit association "Orpheus". This is an association of the eight municipalities through which the dekovel line Septemvri - Dobrinishte passes. Velingrad is the second municipality after September, which voted on the statute of the association and authorized the mayor Stoyan Dulev to participate in the constituent assembly.
At a meeting in June this year. It became clear that the railway line was bearing great financial losses and therefore would be moving towards its detente. The mayors of the municipalities have agreed to establish a joint commercial company for the management and operation of the railway line, announced Nejat Kehayov. The idea is to develop the line as a tourist attraction, which is also interested in a German holding. The first step in this direction is the establishment of Orpheus Association, whose main task will be to attract investments from European funds.
