Regional and local leaders of right-wing political parties gathered on January 6 in Velingrad in connection with the upcoming partial elections for mayor of the municipality. The meeting was hosted by the chairman UDF - Velingrad Dr. Tsvetan Dafov, at whose invitation came the head of the blue election headquarters for the parliamentary elections Hristo Markov and the deputies from UDF Dr. Mihail Mihaylov and Plamen Radonov. Here were the regional leaders of UDF Nikola Penchev, of BZNS-NS Ekaterina Kaferinova, of the Democratic wing Asim Adem, of "Gergyovden" Valentin Nenkov, of the Union of Free Democrats Nikolay Bozhilov, of VMRO Blago Ptelov, the vice-president of the Party "Bulgarian Social Democracy" Dimo Dimov. The meeting was also attended by the local chairmen of NDSV Georgi Maslarov, of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Asen Popov, of the Democratic Party Petar Hrischev, of the Radikali Union Eli Yaneva-Zisova, of SDS Sashka Tseleva, of the Roma Party Stefan Asenov. An invitation to the meeting was also addressed to the DPS, but their representative was missing.
The lively discussion on how to participate in the mayoral elections took place behind closed doors. Then a brief press conference was given by Hristo Markov and Dr. Dafov. The talks were in the direction of unification, there are no definite differences between the right-wing formations in Velingrad, said the Olympic medalist and current blue MP. According to him, it is a joy to think about the future of Velingrad and the municipality. The right-wing are determined to unite behind one candidate who will be Fidel Beev's opponent. We are not against anyone, but we want better governance and the municipality to develop, said Dr. Dafov. In the direction of a better future for Velingrad, the campaign will also be conducted. After the meeting it became clear that the specific name for a candidate mayor was that of Atanas Vodev.
For this year's parliamentary elections Hristo Markov explained that consultations are still being conducted at the central level in what format the UDF will appear. I expect that Mrs. Nadezhda Mihailova will visit Velingrad and not once, said the chief of the election headquarters.
