Asen Popov is the chairman of the Democratic Party for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) in Velingrad. Candidate for Member of Parliament, fourth on the DSB list for our constituency.
- In the election campaign DSB did not offer PR-actions, show and advertising, but was one of the few parties that bet on political speaking. Is this the right path to the voter today, Mr. Popov?
- It is true that each of us in the DSB is talking about politics. Not only the management of DSB, this happens at all our meetings in Pazardzhik region and I am very happy. It definitely appeals to the voter we seek - the one who analyzes critically and makes his choice, who is politically active and remembers history. We ask, we answer, we expose these eyes to eyes, no pre-arrangements as to who will speak what, even many of the people exhibit genuine political creativity.
- DSB is the only right-wing party that does not appear in the elections in coalition, but in pure form. Why and do they have reason to fear that DSB is not inclined to coalition policy?
- To appear in pure form was a decision of the national assembly of DSB. This suits us purely psychologically, and we must clearly distinguish ourselves. As a new party to offer ours to the people in its pure form. And only then to talk about coalitions, but on the basis of the principles that we have enshrined in our contract with the voter. The feverish search for coalitions is a sign of weakness. There are all the more ridiculous examples of past adversaries becoming allies. It's better that we at DSB don't. We don't make coalitions, and in order to get past the barrier, we can only form coalitions on a principled basis.
- The leader of your list Ekaterina Mikhailova is known to all politician. Who are the other persons at the top of the DSB in Pazardzhik constituency?
- The tandem Ekaterina Mihailova - Dr. Peshterliev (who is second in the list) is extremely convincing. Dr. Peshterliev is a good doctor orthopedist, a good person and a good politician whom people trust. In third place is Ivanka Vaklinova - teacher from Belovo, and fourth is me. It is important to know that the list of DSB was arranged by secret ballot by the delegates of our conference in Pazardzhik, not by the party headquarters.
- The results for DSB-Velingrad in these parliamentary elections will be legitimization of the party and the local political scene. Predict the place of DSB in the too complicated and unusual political situation in Velingrad?
- We must present ourselves with dignity in the parliamentary elections in order to claim influence in Velingrad. Then we need to make a long-term program for serious participation in municipal elections in 2 years. Velingrad is a big challenge. The challenge for all who are involved in politics in Velingrad is not to buy votes and vote on religious or ethnic grounds. No matter who wins the election, that has to change. In our election program, that's what's at stake.
- Together with over 50 supporters of DSB from Velingrad you were at the impressive rally organized by the party on June 18 in Sofia. What was the feeling of the sign square in front of Al. Nevsky" where a surprisingly large number of people gathered?
- That the people who made the changes are being mobilized again and won't let it go. It felt like the first rallies since 1989. It gives courage. It leaves no doubt as to whether we will pass the 4% barrier. There were so many people that one grew wings. This rally proved that voters should not be afraid that they will lose their vote if they vote for DSB. We enter the National Assembly and invite the traditional right-wing voter to support us, to evaluate us in dignity and to make a choice between the parties competing for his or her vote.
