On 16 October, Saturday, at 10.30 on the Central Beach in Velingrad, the traditional Feast of Potatoes will be held. The initiative is organized for the fifth time in a row and brings together producers and processors of potatoes from all over the country, companies whose activity is related to the agriculture, processing and sale of potatoes and products from them. For the second time, participation of potato growers from France is also expected. The main purpose of the Feast of Potatoes is to improve the producer-consumer relationship, presentation of potato growers and potato processors, equipment and modern technologies in production and processing. The program of the holiday includes a meeting-discussion on "The problems of producers before and after our accession to the European Union". Representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture and Social Policy, the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Forests, the SAPARD Program, the National Agricultural Advisory Service, potato producers and processors, traders, local authorities and organizations are invited to participate.
A rich program with many surprises has been prepared for the visitors with the participation of the Representative Brass Orchestra and cheerleading squad and the folk singer Guna Ivanova. The potato anthem will be played again and the 2004 Golden Potato Award will be awarded.
The celebration of the potatoes is under the patronage of the mayor of the municipality and is organized by the Association of Bulgarian Potato Growers chaired by Atanas Birnikov, ARK-CBI Velingrad with Fr. Director Vaska Milusheva, Municipality of Velingrad. Co-organizers are Sports Properties and Beaches, Markets and Markets, Union Television. Financial support is provided by the Job Project of MLSP and the United Nations Development Programme.
