On November 23rd, at the initiative of the President of ONCH "Vasil Levski" Mr. Pashov and the Historical Museum, a meeting was held in the small hall of the community center, which practically started the preparation for the 80th anniversary (March 16, 2002) of the patron of Velingrad - Vela Peeva. At its session, the Municipal Council decided the jubilee to be under the patronage of the Mayor of the Municipality Dr. Dafov. Among the attendees were the municipal councilors Dimitar Mechev and Zavarin Marov, the head of the Culture Department Hikmet Kapsuzov, Iliana Maslarova - Director of the Historical Museum, the representatives of the Literary Club Avram Gerev and Kostadin Ushev, Georgi Zlatinov and others. The purpose of the meeting was to give ideas for a worthy celebration of the jubilee and to make suggestions for the composition of the organizing committee.

The participants suggested that the chairmen of the Chitalishtes, representatives of the Municipality and public figures should be included in it. It was proposed that the Organizing Committee be chaired by Deputy Mayor Snezhana Veleva. I will also quote some of the ideas for the holiday. Mr. Zlatinov proposed since 2002. has been declared by the UN as the "Year of the Human Person", the celebrations to pass under the motto: "In heroism and honesty is the immortality of Vela" and proposed the screening of documentaries and feature films dedicated to the life of Vela and reflecting the anti-fascist struggle ("Antonyvanovtsi", "Chepintsi", "Vela"...). Also meetings with remaining associates and friends of Vela and a recital dedicated to her life under the motto "Truth is not forgotten". Mr. Nikola Deliev proposed to organize a donation action to help prepare for the jubilee. The Literary Club insisted on collecting works dedicated to Vela Peeva, there was a proposal to announce a competition to write a song for Velingrad, etc. Other proposals were made such as the name day of Vela - Easter to be declared a holiday of Velingrad. And since the young and growing generation of the city we know little about Vella, whose name their hometown bears, one day (March 16) is insufficient and that is why the participants in the meeting gave ideas and made suggestions for "accompanying" jubilee events.
