For the first time played women Young dentist Dimitar Kalenov won the annual amateur tennis tournament, having outplayed Georgi Minkov in the men's final in a tense three-set match with 6:4, 5:7 and 6: 3. The meeting turned out very controversially, with the first set after several breakthroughs exchanged between the two Kalenov hard won 6:4, and even in the crucial setball there was a small scandal in connection with the ball play, which was quickly suppressed. The second set was even more dramatic after both contestants took their games to 5:5, when Minkov broke Kalenov's serve and took the lead with 6:5. In the subsequent submission of Minkov the result became 0:40 and when everyone expected to come to tiebreak Minkov stepped up and took his game, and along with this the second set - 7:5. In the crucial third set, Kalenov demonstrated more aggressiveness in his actions, more often going out on the grid and forcing his opponent to be wrong. At 4:3 in favor of Kalenov Minkov made two double errors and lost his serving. Kalenov allowed no surprise in the game in which he served, and won the deciding set 6-3.


The tournament was held on the courts of the National Assembly Holiday House and the Council of Ministers between 29 July (Monday) and 4 August (Sunday). For the first time since its creation, women competed in addition to men and couples. Among the ten entrants, the 15-year-old M. Srebranova, who won in the final against 45-year-old V. Dimitrova with 7:5, 6:0. In the double tournament in the final met Vishev-Kalenov and Arabov-Kaloferov. With a score of 6:4, 6:2, Vishev-Kalenov won the match convincingly. All 33 participants in the tournament celebrated its end at the Michele restaurant in Chepino. The winners received cups made by Boris Kostov.Nikolay Stoynov
