ZK "Renaissance" facing the dilemma of activity or liquidation

24.03.2002 20:32 •
Exactly 10 years after its creation, on 21 March 2002. Agricultural cooperative "Vazrazhdane" held its annual reporting-election meeting. The meeting was on a delegate basis, as the participation of all 665 members of the cooperative was difficult to achieve. Report on the work in 2001. presented the Chairman of the Board Vladimir Shumarev. In the beginning, he introduced the participants to the work of the national meeting of agricultural cooperatives, held on February 19 in Sofia with the participation of President Georgi Parvanov. The main topic of the meeting is the poor financial condition of the cooperatives throughout the country. Their debts totaled more than 50 million lena, and in the period after 1998. 266 cooperatives have gone bankrupt and 170 have declared bankruptcy. Currently, the number of working cooperatives is 2,700. At the meeting, the President announced that changes are forthcoming in the law on cooperatives to move the agrarian sector, which will be the biggest problem in Bulgaria's application for a member of the European Union. Similar unhappy financial situation for 2001. reported and ZK "Renaissance". From 56 acres of potatoes planted, the cooperative has lost 23,000 leva. Losses are commercial activity and services, the only profit is from rents and from the sale of fixed assets. The total liabilities at the end of the year are 19,800 leva, some of which have already been paid off. Despite these figures, Mr. Shumarev was optimistic that the cooperative survived and that in 2002. There will be positive changes. However, the statements from the House were not optimistic at all. Dr. Dzhekov asked whether such an existence of the cooperative is necessary and why the Board of Directors is exonerated for the losses every year. He called for new people to enter the board to be produced, not just to generate losses. A critical statement was also made by Maria Alexandrova, who was adamant that this Board is not the brain that can save the cooperative. She pointed out that the people in the MB have not heard of SAPARD, ISPA or EU pre-accession funds, but she noted that the difference between the presidents Shumarev and Buchkov is huge. On M. Alexandrova strongly opposed the leading assembly Liliana Hristova. Some of the questions were answered by Petar Buchkov, who was chairman of the cooperative during part of the reporting period. According to him, the law has brought cooperatives to their knees, and the Board should not be blamed, as its activity is not criminal. That ZK "Renaissance" can not develop as so far explained and Mr. Kaloyanov. Inevitably, the question of the land in the hops was also raised, but G. Darakchiev recalled how years ago the co-operators themselves lost the opportunity to make a joint stock company for hops. He proposed to form a working committee to knock for help at every door in the Ministry of Agriculture. We need activity, otherwise we are going to liquidation, Mr. Darakchiev warned. The participants in the meeting voted for a new Management Board in which they were elected: Petar Buchkov, Lilyana Hristova, Bistra Paunova, Angel Vargov, Georgi Georgiev, Vladimir Shumarev and Velichka Ilinova. Board members will elect a chairman. The Control Council included Ivan Bozhkov, Georgi Daskalov and Boris Bizev. Elena Baeva
